It was organized at the Center for Preserving Arab Heritage at Baghdad University on Thursday November 23, 2023 under the supervision of Professor Dr. Alaa Nafae Jassim, the director of the center. There were a number of professors and researchers in attendance in Nabila Abdel Moneim’s hall at our center. The workshop was titled “Ancient Archives as a Source for Studying History”. Professor Dr. Osama Adnan Yahya from Al-Mustansiriya University’s College of Arts, Department of History spoke. He said that official archives are a source for studying history. He mentioned archives from the third millennium BC like the archives from the Dawn of Dynasties period from 2900-2371 BC, which is the archive for the temples of the gods Ningursu and Bau. Then he addressed the archives of the Third Dynasty of Ur from 2112-2006 BC, especially the archives of King Shulgi. Then he mentioned archives from the Old Babylonian period like the archives of the city of Mari and the letters of Hammurabi. He concluded with the archives of the city of Nuzi in current Kirkuk province and letters from Assyrian kings.
