The Heritage Revival Center holds a session

The Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage held its fifth meeting of the 2026 academic year on Monday, November 5, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Laith Majeed Hussein, Director of the Center, and attended by several department heads and council members.

The meeting included a discussion of the Center’s research plan and mechanisms for its development, aligning with the university’s commitment to supporting scientific research and serving Arab and Islamic heritage. The council also reviewed faculty research projects and discussed the requirements for their completion within the specified timeframes.

Furthermore, the council addressed several administrative and organizational matters related to the Center’s obligations and the mechanisms for distributing teaching duties to ensure the smooth operation of academic and administrative processes.

During the meeting, department heads emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation within the Center and intensifying efforts to elevate the research and scientific standards. They commended the role of researchers and faculty members in enriching the scientific movement and heritage studies with rigorous research. At the end of the session, the need to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations and decisions that would support the center’s scientific and academic progress was emphasized.

A Member from Center  of heritage revival participates as a member on a Thesis Defense Committee 

Assistant Professor Dr. Rasha Issa Fares, a member at the Arab Scientific Heritage Revival Center / University of Baghdad, participated as a member of the master’s thesis defense committee for the student (Maha Najeh Aboud) in the Department of Arab Intellectual and Scientific Heritage at the Institute of Arab History and Scientific Heritage for Graduate Studies.The defense took place on Monday, 30 March 2026, for the thesis entitled: “The Sources of Ibn Kathir (d. 774 AH / 1373 AD) and His Methodology in His Book ‘Shama’il al-Rasul (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) and the بيان of His Outward and Pure Character.’” The student was awarded a grade of ممتاز (Excellent), and we wish her continued success in her academic journey. In conclusion, in recognition of her distinguished academic efforts and active participation, Dr. Rasha Issa Fares was awarded a letter of appreciation from the Deanship of the Institute of Arab History and Scientific Heritage for Graduate Studies, in appreciation of her role in advancing the scientific and academic level. The Arab Scientific Heritage Revival Center at the University of Baghdad held its scientific seminar entitled “Academic Search Engines and the Humanities” on the morning of Tuesday, 31/3/2026, in the Professor Nabila Abdul Munim Dawood Hall at the Center.

Professor Dr. Laith Majeed Hussein, Director of the Center, continued to oversee the ongoing maintenance work at our Center, where he conducted a field inspection of the maintenance of the Center’s power generator. This comes as part of his continuous supervision of field operations to ensure the efficient functioning of the Center’s facilities, contributing to the provision of a suitable working environment and the uninterrupted continuity of daily operations.

At the Invitation of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

A Delegation from the University of Baghdad Signs an Expanded Academic Cooperation Agreement in Japan As part of an academic tour in Japan, on the morning of Friday, December 5, 2025, Professor Dr. Laith Majid Hussein, Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad, visited the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, accompanied by a delegation headed by Professor Dr. Baha Ibrahim Insaf, President of the University of Baghdad, along with a number of university professors, including the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Amir Sajid, and Professor Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qaisi, Professor of Japanese Studies in the College of Arts.

The visit resulted in the signing of a joint cooperation memorandum between the two sides, encompassing a wide range of academic and research fields, including Japanese studies, the Arabic language, peace studies, Middle Eastern issues, translation, and social and human sciences. The agreement paves the way for new horizons of scientific and intellectual exchange between the two institutions. The memorandum was signed on the Japanese side by Professor Nobu Haruna, President of the University, who praised the significance of the partnership with the University of Baghdad and its scientific role in the region. This agreement comes as part of the University of Baghdad’s efforts to attract Japanese students to study in Iraq under the “Study in Iraq” initiative, and within its broader strategy to expand its international partnerships and support joint academic programs.

Publication of a New Scientific Research Study by Professor Dr. Wasan Hussein Muhimid on the Role of Father Dr. Yousef Habbi in Preserving Syriac Heritage

A new scientific research paper entitled “Father Dr. Yousef Habbi and His Role in Preserving Syriac Heritage” has been published by Professor Dr. Wasan Hussein Muhimid, a faculty member in the Department of Human Studies at our Center. The study appears in Bin Al-Nahrain Journal, Issue (211–212), Volume (53), for the year 2025.

The research explores the pioneering role played by Father Dr. Yousef Habbi in safeguarding and reviving Syriac heritage through his efforts in historical investigation and the scholarly editing of texts, in addition to his contributions to enhancing the presence of Syriac heritage within contemporary research fields.

The publication of this study reaffirms the ongoing academic efforts of Dr. Wasan Hussein Muhimid in Syriac studies and human heritage, and strengthens her scholarly presence in one of the most prominent specialized peer-reviewed journals
