Professor Dr. Laith Majid Hussein, Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad, visited the Tokyo Museum of Ancient Civilizations accompanied by the Head of the Department of the East. During the visit, he toured the museum’s exhibits, which include artifacts representing various cultures of East Asian peoples, in addition to Japanese civilization and ancient Egyptian civilization. He also viewed exhibits related to ancient Iraq, represented by 18 archaeological artifacts from different historical periods of Mesopotamian civilization, which significantly enrich the museum’s collections. It is worth noting that these artifacts were exchanged from the Iraqi Museum in 1969 under a protocol for the exchange of archaeological objects that was previously in effect.
At the conclusion of the visit, discussions were held on ways to open horizons for joint scientific cooperation between Iraqi academic institutions and their Japanese counterparts. The Japanese side expressed its welcome and support for the idea of cooperation, especially after noting the security and stability currently enjoyed by Iraq.
