Under the supervision of Professor Dr. Laith Majid Hussein, Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad, the Manuscripts Department at the  Center organized a workshop outside the annual plan on Monday, September 29, 2025, in the Professor Nabila Abdul Moneim Dawood Hall, attended by a number of professors and academics.

The workshop, entitled “Human Trafficking: A Crime Against Humanity and Human Rights,” was chaired by Professor Dr. Zainab Kamel Kareem, Head of the Manuscripts Department at our Center.

The lecture was delivered by Legal Advisor Sarah Kazem Ajil from the Ministry of Interior / Community Police Directorate, who discussed the concept of human trafficking as one of the most dangerous crimes threatening human dignity and freedom. She emphasized that it represents a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and an affront to the essence of humanity.

She highlighted Article 28 of the 2013 Law, which criminalizes all forms of human trafficking, including sexual exploitation, forced labor, child enslavement, and organ trafficking, describing these practices as crimes against humanity that warrant the harshest penalties.

The lecturer also noted that this legal provision aligns with international conventions combating transnational organized crime and stressed that addressing this phenomenon requires regional and international cooperation, in addition to raising public awareness about its dangers.

She urged human rights organizations to activate protection and monitoring mechanisms and to provide psychological and legal support to victims, affirming that combating human trafficking is not only a legal responsibility but also a moral and humanitarian duty to safeguard human dignity and uphold human rights.

The workshop included several insightful interventions from the attending professors, reflecting the importance of the topic. In conclusion, the Center’s administration expressed its appreciation to the Legal Advisor by presenting her with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her efforts and contributions in service of our esteemed university.
