The French government, represented by the French Ministry of Culture, awarded the Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad, Dr. Laith Majeed Hussein, the Chevalier Medal (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres), the French National Order of Arts and Letters. Patrick Durel, the French Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, decorated Dr. Laith with the medal based on a decree issued by the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, at a ceremony held in Baghdad at the ambassador’s residence on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The medal is one of the highest French medals awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of art, literature, and history. The prestigious French medal crowns Dr. Laith’s cultural endeavors in building bridges of cultural communication and his role in strengthening Iraqi-French relations. The award of the medal came in honor of his Iraqi archaeological commitment to contributing to strengthening cultural relations between Iraq and France in the archaeological field through scientific and cultural project initiatives that have contributed to extending cooperation between the two countries
