Under the supervision by prof, Dr. Alaa Nafea Jasim (the director of the center) ,the syntactic sciences department in the center of heritage revival /university of Baghdad organized scientific symposium entitled (the environmental treatments to design buildings between heritage and contemporary) where sited in Nabila A. Dawood hall on Wednesday 16th/4/2025 , the lecture is chaired by assist instructor Walaa Dhia Nsaif in the center , the first lecture contained participant research by prof. Dr. Kareem Hasan Alwan (the dean of civil and regional planning center of higher studies ) / university of Baghdad and Enas Dhia Hadi (a lecturer at the civil and regional planning center in the university of Baghdad The research on heritage has yielded an inexhaustible wealth for each place according to what it contains, whether it is a physical or cultural heritage and what it carries of memories, meanings and cultures that appeared according to the chronological sequence of civilizations and the most important environmental treatments that focus on heritage buildings in hot, dry areas and what they include of treatments that may be formal at the level of facades FORM or detailed at the level of building details DETAILS to achieve thermal comfort and that the goal is to preserve heritage buildings from external environmental influences in addition to benefiting from previous experiences in finding environmental solutions that contribute to preserving the heritage legacy. The researcher added several environmental treatments, including formal environmental treatments at the level of facades and detailed environmental treatments – at the level of design and planning details and environmental treatments – reviewing experiences of heritage elements and environmental treatments – reviewing experiences of heritage cities that include contemporary treatments and then research M.M. Dr. Wasan Adel Abdel Wahab, a lecturer at our center titled (Protecting Heritage Buildings from the Risks of Climate Change), spoke about heritage buildings of distinctive value and how to preserve them and prevent them from being exposed to the risks of traditional or extreme nature resulting from climate change. These works and pre-emptive measures can be called preventive maintenance, which can be applied at the level of the heritage building or at the level of its urban environment. She also mentioned that preventive maintenance primarily focuses on implementing control work and accurate, periodic, non-destructive inspection of all architectural elements. The symposium also recommended adopting sustainable building materials that ensure ease of sustainability, the necessity of raising environmental awareness among city users, encouraging the concepts of urban agriculture, clarifying the importance of the Environmental Protection Law and the Antiquities Protection Law for users of heritage buildings, trying to link them, and including green education curricula in schools and universities to address climate problems. In conclusion, the director of the center thanked the researchers, wishing them continued success in serving our university and great Iraq.
