Arab Scientific Heritage Revival Center Organizes a Workshop Toward a Sustainable University Environment and the Role of Educational Institutions in Promoting Environmental Awareness
The Quality Assurance Unit at the Arab Scientific Heritage Revival Center at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop on Wednesday, 24/12/2025, entitled “The Impact of Educational Institutions in Consolidating a Culture of Preserving the University Environment.” This workshop was held as part of the Center’s activities aimed at enhancing environmental awareness within the academic community. The workshop session was chaired by Assistant instructor Juman Adnan Hussein, a faculty member at the Center, who emphasized in her opening remarks the importance of the workshop in developing environmental awareness among students and staff to strengthening the spirit of collective responsibility toward the university environment.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Roaa Ali Mohammed from the Department of Energy, College of Engineering, University of Baghdad. A presentation highlighted the pivotal role played by educational institutions in spreading a culture of environmental preservation within the university environment, the importance of integrating environmental concepts into curricula and student activities, and encouraging positive behaviors that contribute to achieve environmental sustainability on campus. The workshop concluded with a number of important recommendations, most notably strengthening partnerships between colleges and research centers to support environmental initiatives; incorporating concepts of sustainability and environmental conservation into educational programs; encouraging university staff to participate in environmental campaigns and activities within the university; and adopting environmentally friendly practices in the management of university facilities. The workshop concluded by affirming that educational institutions represent a fundamental pillar in building an environmentally aware culture, and that investing in environmental awareness within universities contributes to preparing a generation capable of protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development in society. The Center’s administration expressed its appreciation to the lecturer for her efforts, wishing her continued success and prosperity.
