Under the supervision of Professor Dr. Laith Majeed Hussein, Director of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage at the University of Baghdad, the Center held a seminar entitled “The Seasons in Eastern, Western, and Astronomical Calendars – An Applied Study on the Baghdad Meteorological Station” on Monday ,October 20, 2025, and in the presence of a number of professors and researchers, in the Hall of Professor Nabila Abdul Muneim Dawood. The lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Salar Ali Khudhur, a faculty member at our Center, who discussed the objectives of the study, which aimed to compare the seasonal divisions used by the Arabs with the four contemporary seasons of the Western calendar. The researcher added that the astronomical calendar was used as a criterion for comparison between the Eastern and Western calendars in order to identify similarities and differences between the seasons in the past and present, and to determine which is more accurate. The lecture included a detailed presentation of the methodologies used to determine the beginnings of the four seasons in each calendar, as well as a graphical and statistical analysis showing the correlation between astronomical dates and the actual climatic changes in the region.
