The Baghdad Documentation Department is a section of the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage and was a separate center in itself, as it was established in 1989 and then it was attached to the Center for the Revival of Arab Scientific Heritage in 2008, where the Baghdad Documentation Department is one of the important scientific departments in the Heritage Revival Center and one of the active departments not only at the level of the University of Baghdad, but at the level of the city of Baghdad, for its effective role in documenting the city of Baghdad with everything related to it, and documentation includes all forms Documents (photos, documents, manuscripts, maps, films, etc.) etc). The Baghdad Documentation Department aims to document the city of Baghdad through readable and visual documents, as well as the collection and provision of information, documents and manuscripts about the city of Baghdad, and work to store these documents with the latest scientific methods of information technology in order to facilitate the provision of information to researchers and scholars about the city of Baghdad, which is a primary goal of the department, and the department also prepares bibliographs, indexes, searchlights and extracts related to Baghdad documents, and the department worked on collecting books, pictures, medals, coins and Baghdadi postage stamps.

This department seeks to achieve its objectives through the following means:
1- Preparing scientific research and documentation.
2. Collecting and coordinating information, documents, manuscripts, and publications relating to the city of Baghdad.
3- Providing supplies and requirements of necessary devices and materials.
4. Achieving and expanding cooperation with state departments and the socialist sector.
5- Issuing various publications on Baghdad, especially indexes and searchlights.
6- Strengthening ties between relevant Arab and foreign centers and institutions.
7- Tovela owners of experts and specialists and the constant pursuit of developing their expertise and knowledge about Baghdad.
