seminar

The center of heritage revival organizes seminar (popular heritage in Abbasid era (Healing in monasteries)

Under the supervision by the prof. Dr. Alaa Nafea Jasim (the director of the center ) the center of heritage revival organizes seminae entitled ( popular heritage in Abbasid era (Healing in monasteries) in Nabila A. Al-munam hall in the center on Monday 7th/4/2025 , the lecture is presented by prof. Dr. Wasan Hussein Muhiemeed (one of the centers members )who talked about subjects and people faith that forms part of their traditions They have been used in every time and age, and some of them have even extended to the present time to form what is called heritage or popular belief that people of religions come together on in the shadow of coexistence in one environment in which each party casts the misguidance of its popular heritage on the other, that heritage that is far in its essence from the principles of any religion they were on to imitate the minds of the simple in reaching what their souls are good at and fulfilling their endless desires. From that, what the books of history and Arabic literature contain of information about the status and fame of some monasteries, as they go beyond being a place of worship for their owners to be a destination for different spectra seeking blessings and healing for ailments that doctors were unable to cure. The researcher mentioned the most prominent names of monasteries in different regions of the Arab Islamic state in the Abbasid era in Iraq, the Levant and Egypt to take their fame as the destination of every patient, and we choose from among them some monasteries such as those distinguished by the presence of water springs in them, including the highest monastery in Mosul, and underneath it is a large spring (Ain Sulfur) that flows into the Tigris and has a time of the year People visit it to bathe in it, believing that it cures scabies and itching and is beneficial for the crippled and those with chronic diseases. Christians and Muslims visit it. In the Monastery of Yunus bin Matta, which was built in the name of the Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) and is located on the eastern side of Mosul, there is a spring known as the Spring of Yunus. People visit it and bathe in the spring water for healing, recreation, and to seek its blessings. From the above, it can be said that the popular heritage reflects simplicity of thought with pure intention and following in the footsteps of others who have adorned for them the fulfillment of their wishes and the crown of which is wellness. It has been said: Two unknown blessings are health and safety.
